Day 6: Clinton BC to The Crossing, Alberta
Clinton BC to The Crossing, Alberta - 425 miles (looooong day)
Apologies for the delayed report from Day 6; I was an exhausted puppy and passed out at 8pm after dinner. There was no blogging to be had. I was asleep when my head hit the pillow.
The ride on day 6 took us along Hwy 1 thru some of the most amazing sets of Canadian Rockies. We backtracked thru Kamloops. Some history for all of you ... the city of Kamloops was incorporated in 1893 with about 500 residents. The Canadian Pacific Railway was completed through downtown in 1886, and the Canadian National arrived in 1912, making Kamloops an important transportation hub.
Kamloops is promoted as the Tournament Capital of Canada. It hosts more than 100 sporting tournaments each year (hockey, baseball, curling, etc).
Hwy 1 on this route was crowded - and full of 18 wheelers. Very pretty, but clearly a major highway to move commerce. We spent a lot of time passing huge a** trucks on twisties. Not the funnest ride but still very pretty. I did add some videos, below, that show some of the views - at one point we saw a sign that said "no gas for 156 km". Kate and I both panicked, did some conversion math in our heads, and realized we had to take it slower to conserve gas.
Ask me how much fun I had for those 97 miles as Corollas were passing us.
There were no good photo ops....so no stills, only videos.
We lost an hour, crossed into Alberta, and finally made it to our hotel, which was lovely. Nestled at the intersection of hwy 93 and 11 in Banff National Park, on the edge of the Icefields Parkway (see Day 7), The Crossing Resort did not disappoint.
Below are a few shots of the property and the views.
Kate on the steps !
After a refreshing shower, we had dinner at the pub in the hotel - the salad bar was fantastic and beer was spectacular !! Oh - that's Kate's regular shot of Jameson in the middle.
And now.....videos.....
Here is our route for the day - tomorrow we have a day off from riding and are going to enjoy the town of Banff:

Your ride looks amazing! I especially like that first interaction w/ the Indigenous group. The views and the lakes - how incredible! Keep the blogs coming. They’re tons of fun to follow. Enjoy the rest of your amazing trip! (Rachel Hall)
